Compress PDF
Reduce PDF file size. Right in your browser. 100% free, privacy protected.
Compress PDF reduces file size so a document fits an email attachment limit or an upload form. Choose a compression level and the tool re-encodes embedded images, removes duplicated resources and strips metadata that is not needed for viewing. How much you save depends almost entirely on what is inside the file: photo-heavy scans and presentations often drop by 50-80%, while a text-only document that was generated by Word may barely shrink at all because there is nothing bulky to squeeze. Compression runs in your browser through a WebAssembly build of MuPDF, so files are not uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much smaller will my file get?
It depends on the content. Scanned documents and image-heavy files commonly shrink by 50-80%. A text-only PDF exported from a word processor may only lose a few percent, because the bulk is already compressed text streams rather than images.
Why did my PDF barely get smaller?
Almost certainly because it contains little or no image data. Compression works mainly by re-encoding images. If the file is pure vector text, there is very little left to remove without damaging it.
Will the text still be selectable?
Yes. Text is never rasterised. Only embedded images are re-encoded, so search, copy and text selection keep working exactly as before.
Can I compress several files at once?
Yes, this tool accepts multiple files. Each one is compressed with the same setting and the results come back as a ZIP.
