Watermark - How To Guide

Learn how to use watermark. 100% free, no installation required.

A watermark marks a document's status or ownership — DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a logo, a recipient's name. The craft is making it unmistakable without making the document unreadable.

  1. Upload Files

Add the PDF and choose whether the watermark is text or an image.

  2. Set Options

Set the wording, font, size, colour, rotation, opacity and position. The preview shows it on the real page, so adjust until it reads correctly.

  3. Download

Apply it to every page or a specific range, then download.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Around 10-20% opacity behind the content is the sweet spot: clearly visible, never in the way of reading.
  • Diagonal text across the page is harder to crop out than a mark tucked in a corner.
  • Use a transparent PNG for a logo. A JPG brings a white box with it.
  • Keep your unwatermarked original. Once applied, the watermark is part of the page content.
