Split PDF - How To Guide

Learn how to use split pdf. 100% free, no installation required.

Splitting is how you get one chapter out of a report, separate a batch scan back into individual documents, or cut a bundle down to the part someone actually asked for. You can split at intervals or at exact page ranges.

  1. Upload Files

Add the PDF. Page thumbnails are rendered so you can see where the natural breaks fall before deciding.

  2. Set Options

Choose how to split: at a fixed interval, or by typing exact ranges like 1-5, 6-12, 13-20.

  3. Download

Download the results. When the split produces more than one file they come back together as a ZIP.

Tips & Best Practices

  • If you want the selected pages in one file rather than several, use Extract Pages instead — that is the usual mix-up.
  • Scroll the thumbnails first. Separator sheets and blank pages are much easier to spot visually than by counting page numbers.
  • Output files are named after the source plus their page range, so the pieces stay traceable.
  • Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked before they can be split.
