PDF to TXT
Extract text from PDF. Right in your browser. 100% free, privacy protected.
PDF to TXT extracts the text content of a PDF into a plain text file, stripping layout, fonts and images so you are left with the words. That is exactly what you want when the text has to be fed into a script, an analysis tool, a translation workflow or a search index, where PDF structure is only in the way. Extraction preserves reading order and paragraph breaks as far as the source document allows. It runs in your browser with no upload.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No. A scan contains images of text, not text. Run it through OCR first, which recognises the characters and adds a real text layer.
Is the layout preserved?
No, and deliberately so — plain text has no columns or positioning. Multi-column layouts in particular are flattened into a single reading order.
What encoding is the output?
UTF-8, so accented characters and non-Latin scripts survive intact.
Why is some text missing?
Usually because parts of the page are images rather than text, or the PDF uses a font with a broken character map. OCR handles the first case.
